Who is NAMI?

Who NAMI Is to Me

NAMI’s mission is personal to me. I live with mental illness, I have family members who live with mental illness, and I have felt the pain of suicide.

I believe mental illness should be treated like any other illness, disorder, or disease—with compassion, effective treatment, and access to care. I’m living proof that when people have access to mental health resources and medication, they can live healthy, fulfilling lives.

NAMI provides education, support, resources, and training that help people understand mental illness and navigate the path toward getting help. Its work reflects something I believe deeply: no one should have to face mental illness alone.

That’s why I’m raising funds for NAMI. I want more people and families to have access to the understanding, connection, and support they deserve.

About NAMI

NAMI—the National Alliance on Mental Illness—is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. It works to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness through education, support, advocacy, and public awareness. Learn more about NAMI.

  • Support: Support groups and a HelpLine that connects people with information, resources, and encouragement.

  • Advocacy: Work to improve public policies affecting people with mental illness and their families.

  • Awareness: Efforts to challenge stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health.

What Could Your Donation Support?

Donations help make NAMI’s work possible. Depending on the needs of the NAMI organization receiving the funds, your contribution could help support:

  • Free classes and educational materials: Helping someone understand their mental health condition or giving a family practical tools to support a loved one.

  • Free support groups: Creating spaces where people can share experiences, feel understood, and connect with others facing similar challenges.

  • Training for volunteer facilitators: Preparing people to lead support groups and bring that support to more communities.

  • The NAMI HelpLine: Helping people find mental health information, emotional support, and resources when they are unsure where to turn.

  • Community outreach and advocacy: Expanding mental health awareness and supporting efforts to improve access to care.

These are examples of the work donations can help sustain; specific spending depends on the recipient organization and its priorities. Learn more about supporting NAMI.

Why This Fundraiser Matters

For me, this fundraiser is about people—the person struggling to ask for help, the family trying to understand, and anyone wondering whether a healthier future is possible.

My experience has shown me what access to treatment and support can mean. I want others to have that opportunity, too.

Whether you donate or share this fundraiser, thank you for supporting a cause that is deeply personal to me—and for helping build a world where mental illness is met with care, dignity, and understanding.
